Day 41: “It’s like 4-wheel drive for your feet”

10 Feb

Well, today is the day I am scheduled to run 11 miles and I’m sure you’re all on the edge of your seats waiting for a pic of “the world’s greatest male athlete” in his tights.  Sorry to disappoint you, but the tights didn’t happen.  With the 2 feet of snow we had in the city, the run almost didn’t happen. BUT, we bought some yak tracks and hit the road for a run – whatever we could run. It was an adventure around the river.  Some of the sidewalks/paths were pavement, some were slushy, some were calf-high in puddles, and some weren’t even plowed at all.  I thought it was harder than running in sand.  We did mayyybe 5 miles…although with our math we decided that every 1 mile run in the snow is the equivalent of running 3 miles on pavement. Sooooo….we did pretty well 🙂  I’ve never run with the yak tracks, and I’m definitely a fan! Even though I ran like an unbalanced slightly drunk monkey, the traction was really good. I only fell once. And it was really only because the path wasn’t plowed and we were running on cross country ski tracks.  I’m sure it was a very graceful fall. Or not at all.  All in all, it was a gorgeous day, and it felt great to be out in the sun and yes, even the snow 🙂  Good training for Hyannis!
